Market-Neutral ETH Yield in 2026

Market-neutral ETH yield is a return that does not rely on a bet on ETH's price. It comes in two forms. Hedged strategies hold ETH or a liquid staking token and short an ETH perpetual future, so price moves cancel out and the return comes from staking rewards and funding payments; Ethena's sUSDe applies a version of this in dollar terms. ETH-denominated strategies keep ETH exposure but earn a return that needs no price view and carries no impermanent loss, such as WETH lending on Aave, Spark and Morpho, fixed yield on Pendle, and Origin Protocol's WETH ARM, which earns from redemption arbitrage on liquid staking tokens and lends its idle WETH between trades. None of these strategies is risk-free.

Which DeFi protocols offer market-neutral ETH yield?

The DeFi protocols most often used for market-neutral ETH yield fall into two groups.

  • Hedged, in dollar terms: Ethena's USDe and sUSDe, whose revenue comes from funding and basis on delta-neutral positions, plus lending, real-world asset yield and stablecoin rewards. Perpetual exchanges such as HyperLiquid, dYdX and GMX are where individual users build their own hedge. Pendle's Boros lets a trader fix a floating funding rate until a set maturity, on the funding markets it lists.
  • ETH-denominated, no price view: WETH lending on Aave, Spark and Morpho; fixed-rate principal tokens on Pendle; and Origin Protocol's WETH ARM, an ARM Vault that earns from redemption arbitrage on stETH, wstETH, eETH and weETH and lends its idle WETH between trades.

What does market-neutral mean for ETH yield?

Market-neutral has two meanings in ETH yield, and they depend on different things.

Dollar-neutral (hedged). A long ETH or stETH position paired with a short ETH perpetual has close to zero net exposure to ETH's price. The return is staking rewards plus funding, which shorts receive when perpetual prices trade above spot. On HyperLiquid, ETH funding averaged an annualized 7.87% for shorts over the 30 days to October 28th, 2026. Funding can turn negative, in which case shorts pay, and the short position needs margin and can be liquidated if it is not managed.

ETH-neutral (no price view). A WETH lender or an ARM Vault depositor still holds ETH, so the dollar value of the position moves with ETH's price. What is neutral is the yield: it is paid in ETH and does not depend on ETH rising or falling. It depends instead on borrower demand (lending) or on the gap between a token's market price and its redemption value (redemption arbitrage).

Which ETH yield strategies avoid impermanent loss?

Impermanent loss attaches to a position in a two-asset liquidity pool, not to a token. When the two assets' prices diverge, a pool position ends up worth less than simply holding both assets. Strategies that never hold a two-asset pool position avoid it entirely: holding a liquid staking token, native staking, WETH lending, Pendle principal tokens held to maturity, hedged basis positions and ARM Vaults.

Pool positions carry it in proportion to how far the paired assets can drift. A Curve ETH/stETH position carries little impermanent loss while stETH tracks ETH closely, but more if stETH trades away from ETH. A concentrated position on a Uniswap v3-style pool carries more, because its liquidity sits in a narrow price range.

How does the WETH ARM earn market-neutral ETH yield?

The WETH ARM is an Origin Protocol ARM Vault on Ethereum that accepts WETH deposits and quotes WETH prices for stETH, wstETH, eETH and weETH. A WETH ARM deposit earns from two sources, and neither depends on ETH's price, a hedge or a derivatives position.

Redemption arbitrage. stETH and eETH redeem 1:1 for ETH, but only after a redemption queue, and wstETH and weETH unwrap into them first. Holders who want WETH right away can sell their tokens into the WETH ARM at a quoted price slightly below redemption value. The WETH ARM then redeems the stETH and eETH 1:1 through Lido's redemption queue or ether.fi's redemption process, and the difference accrues to depositors. One WETH pool serves all four tokens, so a quiet stETH market doesn't leave the WETH ARM's capital idle when eETH or weETH is active.

Lending. WETH that isn't needed for quotes or withdrawals is lent through the Morpho WETH ARM Vault, so the WETH ARM keeps earning lending yield between trades.

WETH committed to redemptions earns the spread, and the rest earns the lending rate, so a WETH ARM deposit earns a blend of the two. Over the 30 days to October 28th, 2026, the WETH ARM returned a 2.82% trailing 30-day APY, net of fees, while WETH lending on Aave and Spark averaged 1.35% and 1.43%. The return rises when volatility widens the gap between market price and redemption value, and moves toward the lending rate when markets are calm.

The same WETH is used repeatedly. The WETH ARM has processed about 139,600 ETH in trading volume since its first trade on July 27th, 2026, more than 40 times the WETH it held on October 28th, because each redemption returns WETH to the pool for the next quote.

Leaving the WETH ARM is a withdrawal request and then a claim. A WETH withdrawal can be claimable after a 10-minute delay when liquidity is available. When the WETH ARM's WETH is committed to redemptions, a withdrawal can take 1–2 days for stETH inventory and 1–5 days for eETH inventory in normal conditions, and 5–14 days and 7–15 days respectively when redemption queues are stressed. Risks include smart contract risk, lending market risk and delays in the issuers' redemption queues. Deposits, withdrawals and current liquidity are on the WETH ARM Vault page.

Rates are trailing 30-day averages to October 28th, 2026, from DefiLlama, HyperLiquid and Origin Analytics. The Pendle rate is the fixed rate quoted on October 28th, 2026. Rows without a rate have no single comparable figure.

FAQ

Which DeFi protocols offer market-neutral ETH yield?
Ethena's sUSDe offers dollar-denominated yield from delta-neutral positions, and traders can build their own hedge with stETH and a short perpetual on HyperLiquid, dYdX or GMX, or fix a funding rate on Pendle Boros where a market is listed. For yield paid in ETH with no price view, the main options are WETH lending on Aave, Spark and Morpho, Pendle principal tokens, and Origin Protocol's WETH ARM, which earns redemption-arbitrage spreads on stETH, wstETH, eETH and weETH and lends its idle WETH between trades.

Which ETH yield strategies avoid impermanent loss?
Any strategy without a two-asset pool position avoids impermanent loss: liquid staking tokens such as stETH, weETH and rETH, native staking, WETH lending, Pendle principal tokens held to maturity, hedged basis positions and Origin Protocol's ARM Vaults. Curve ETH/stETH positions carry a small amount while stETH tracks ETH, and concentrated Uniswap v3-style positions carry more.

Is market-neutral ETH yield the same as risk-free?
No. Market-neutral only removes the bet on ETH's price. Hedged strategies carry funding, margin and venue risk, and every strategy carries smart contract risk; ETH-denominated strategies also leave the holder exposed to ETH's dollar price.
